Alocasia 'Tiny Dancers'
Alocasia 'Tiny Dancers' is a miniature hybrid Alocasia with many slender petioles and small teardrop-shaped green leaves. Each leaf sits at the end of a fine stem above a small base, giving the plant a light, animated outline.
Its parentage is Alocasia brisbanensis × Alocasia odora, with very small size, numerous leaves and a teardrop blade shape.
Tiny leaves on fine petioles
- Foliage: Small green teardrop leaves with a smooth surface.
- Habit: Dense miniature plant with many fine upright petioles.
- Scale: Stays far smaller than most elephant-ear Alocasia.
- Parentage: Alocasia brisbanensis × Alocasia odora.
Tiny Dancers in a small pot
Although the plant is small, the roots still need warmth, air and even moisture during growth. Because the petioles are fine, avoid heavy handling and sudden drying while new leaves are forming.
- Light: Screened window light keeps the plant dense and helps frequent small leaves develop.
- Watering: Water when the upper mix starts to dry. Small pots can dry quickly in warm rooms.
- Substrate: Use a fine but airy aroid mix with coco fibre, small bark, perlite and pumice.
- Pot size: Keep the pot proportionate to the root ball so moisture drains before it lingers below the roots.
- Temperature: Warm indoor conditions encourage steady leaf replacement.
- Humidity: Steady humidity helps fine new petioles and leaves expand smoothly.
- Feeding: Use a very mild feed while fresh leaves are appearing. Small root systems need gentle nutrient levels.
- Handling: Lift the pot from below and keep fresh leaves away from repeated contact.
Miniature growth and root balance
- Sudden droop: Check pot dryness first, then root temperature and lower-pot moisture.
- Thin pale growth: Increase light gradually while keeping the roots warm.
- Soft base: Remove old saturated mix and check for root damage.
- Pests: Inspect the small leaves closely because mite damage can spread before it is obvious.
Access for a fine-stemmed hybrid
Alocasia 'Tiny Dancers' is toxic if chewed. Keep the small leaves away from pets and children.
Tiny Dancers hybrid line
Alocasia takes its name from its relationship to Colocasia. The plant stays miniature, with small leaves held on slender petioles above a compact base.
