Description

Meet the Arboricola—bringing Mary Poppins vibes with her eye-catching and perfectly arranged umbrella leaves! She's got that classic, reliable charm that makes every room feel more put-together, like when you finally manage perfect hair on a humid day.

This Umbrella Plant is basically nature's answer to effortless chic while being surprisingly low-maintenance. Native to Taiwan and Hainan, she's mastered the art of thriving indoors while keeping her glossy green leaves looking picture-perfect.

Growing 3-8 feet tall, she's the ideal size for making a statement without taking over your living room like some overzealous houseguest. Plus, she moonlights as an air purifier—beauty and brains, people!

Care

How do I care for an Arboricola?

Give your Arboricola bright indirect light, and water when her soil feels dry to the touch. She likes normal room temperatures and doesn't need much fussing. Just like a supermodel who eats takeout and still looks flawless.

Is Arboricola a good indoor plant?

The Arboricola is fantastic indoors! She adapts like a champ to different conditions while quietly cleaning your air all day long. She's forgiving with watering schedules and doesn't throw tantrums if you forget her for a few days.

Does Arboricola like sun or shade?

Your Arboricola prefers to be in bright indirect light, but she’ll tolerate some shade like a true professional plant. Direct sun will scorch her leaves, though—she's more "elegant brunch" than "beach volleyball," if you know what we mean.

How often should I water an Arboricola?

Water her when the top few inches of soil feel dry, usually every week or two depending on your home's conditions. She's not dramatic about timing—just check the soil and you'll know when she's thirsty. Winter means less water, generally.

Can I put my Umbrella Plant outside in the summer?

Your Umbrella Plant loves a summer vacation with some fresh air and natural humidity to perk her up. Just protect her from harsh afternoon sun and make sure to bring her back indoors before temperatures drop below 54°F (12°C).

Where is the best place to put an Umbrella Plant in the house?

You can pop your Umbrella Plant near an east or north-facing window where she gets plenty of bright light without getting completely roasted alive. Make sure you avoid cold drafts and heating vents—she's not into that chaos, honestly.

Do Umbrella Plants like to be misted?

Light misting occasionally is fine for your Umbrella Plant (like a spa day!). Heavy daily misting sessions? Tsk tsk - that's how you get fungal issues that nobody wants to deal with. A humidity tray works much better anyway.

How much light does an Arboricola need?

Your Arboricola wants about 4-5 hours of bright indirect light daily to keep her colors vibrant and her growth healthy. Less light means she'll get leggy and lose that full, lush look we all love her for in our homes.

What fertilizer is best for Arboricola?

Feed your Arboricola with balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength monthly during spring and summer, when she's actively growing. She's not a heavy eater—think light snacking rather than feast mode. Skip winter feeding entirely when she's resting.

Pet-friendly?

Your Arboricola isn't pet-safe—she contains compounds toxic to cats and dogs that can make them sick. Keep her up high where curious paws can't reach, because nobody wants an emergency vet visit over a plant nibble gone wrong.

Are Arboricola toxic to dogs?

Arboricola plants are toxic to dogs and can cause drooling, vomiting, and mouth irritation. Not something you want to deal with. If your pup gets a taste, call your vet immediately—it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Are Arboricola toxic to cats?

Arboricola plants are toxic to cats too, causing similar symptoms like drooling and stomach upset that can make them miserable. Keep her away from curious kitties who might think those glossy leaves look like a tasty snack worth investigating thoroughly.

Factoids

How tall do Arboricola get?

Indoor Arboricola plants typically max out around 3-8 feet tall, perfect for statement-making without any ceiling-bumping drama in your home. Outdoors in their natural habitat? They can hit 25 feet—but don't worry about that happening indoors, promise!

Is an Arboricola air-purifying?

Your Arboricola actively removes nasty stuff like benzene and formaldehyde from your air while looking gorgeous doing her job. She's basically a living air filter that never needs replacing—just occasional watering and appreciation for her hard work around the house.

Why is Arboricola called an Umbrella Plant?

Look at those leaves: 7-9 leaflets radiating from each stem like umbrella spokes in perfect formation! Once you see it, you can't unsee it. Nature designed her specifically to remind us of rainy day accessories.

good spice, poor banter
Format: Kindle
This definitely scratches the itch, but doesn’t offer a ton in terms of plot. The conflict that arises towards the end is weak at best, so if you are a fan of no third act breakup, this could be a good fit. He never really reads as British, but maybe the audio book would be a better option, if an accent does it for you.

oh my stars was this book everything i wanted and more!
Format: Kindle
The book follows Kendra Hart, an American soccer player, who is in a relationship with Tyler (who cares what his last name is he sucks). But they break up and Tyler isn’t happy about that (because he sucks). That’s when our favorite man, Jack Morgan, can sweep in and fake date her to help her get Tyler off his back. Here’s the drama though, Tyler and Jack used to be rivals in college and now they play for the same NHL team. Jack has had a secret crush on Kendra for years and he doesn’t plan to keep their relationship fake!! Kendra is just one of my favorite FMCs to date! throughout the whole book she is nothing but loyal and compassionate to all the people around her and she has no idea that her jack wang ex boyfriend was actually the worst until Jack! Jack who has cared about her for years and wants to do everything to help her see how she should be loved! the parking lot comment killed me and i felt like a true ache in my chest! and the third act moment i wish we got to see the rest of the context of the texts because i was just as shocked as Kendra (props to Ruth’s writing!! i was literally gobsmacked) but Jack explains it so no issue there really! the spice was perfect! literally all around i found this book to be amazing! I think each and every one of Ruth’s books have gotten better and better and that makes me so excited because this book kind of set up the next 2 in the series and i am ON MY KNEEEEESSS PRAYING for a Darcy and Archer book! i love the long term commitment girl with the playboy! its such a fun trope and Liam has been known to make Darcy cry, feel like she’s too much, he kinda monopolizes her time, and reminds me of Elliot who I also hope Darcy gets away from! i’m also excited to see the tropes of the next book because he’s a single dad and she floats around for work but she works in motorcycle shops so i’m not sure if a nanny trope will be there (this is assuming the next book is about Colin which i hope it is!!) Thank you so much to Ruth Stilling and her team for allowing me to read this ARC! I had the best time reading it! :)

A great hockey romance
Format: Kindle
This was a great hockey romance. Jake is a rookie NHL player who has secretly liked Kendra, a pro soccer star, since college. Kendra ends up without a place to live, so Jake steps in to help. He moves her in. They try to keep it inconspicuous to deter her ex and the team vibe. When her ex, Jake's teammate and rival, won’t leave her alone, Jake steps in to fake date her. I loved how much Jake adores Kendra. He’s supportive, protective, and says the sweetest things to her. Kendra is tough and confident, but you also see her softer side with Jake. Their friendship is strong before anything romantic happens, which makes their connection feel real. The fake dating, forced proximity, and “he falls first” tropes are done really well. There are lots of swoony moments, fun banter, and just enough drama to keep things interesting.

Jon Morgan's stepson? Say. Less!
Format: Kindle
This is book one in the Blade Kings series and we are starting off with a bang because we have Jon Morgan's stepson as our MMC! This was my first second generation story and I. Loved. it! I am a huge Jon Morgan fan so seeing Jack take the Morgan name and number made me emotional. 🥹 Jack is the textbook definition of a boy obsessed. He has been down hard for Kendra since they first met in college. Unfortunately she was dating his team rival, Tyler. Tyler took Kendra for granted and didn't give her the time and attention she deserved. And Jack hated him for it. Fast forward a few years and they are all in New York City, where Jack and Tyler are playing on the same team again, and Kendra is a pro soccer player. And there is still nothing but bad blood between Jack and Tyler. Eventually Kendra realizes that Tyler doesn't value their relationship like he should so she ends things. Which gives Jack the time to work that Morgan (yes I know he's not really a Morgan but he acts like one). 😏 When Kendra needs a place to stay Jack is more than happy to offer up his place. And when Tyler won't leave her alone they decide to enter into a fake relationship to keep him away. Which causes some 💥 on and off the ice between the guys As you can imagine it doesn't take long for Kendra to realize how incredible Jack is and how much she was missing out on. My girl Kendra is a total badass independent queen. She is fierce and dedicated, but also vulnerable and passionate. They give us some top notch banter and chemistry that is off the charts. Jack is so patient and sweet and swoony and treats her how she deserves to be treated. The way he cares for and loves her had me in a puddle. Ruth absolutely slayed this book like she does all of her others. At this point if she writes it I'm going to read it and I'm going to love it! If you haven't already you need to add it to your TBR you will not be disappointed. ✨ Available on Kindle Unlimited today!

A British Boyfriend NHL Player
Format: Kindle
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/🌶️🌶️🌶️ You know, I read this on a whim when I saw that our hero Jack would be British, playing pro in the NHL. As it turns out, why did I suddenly forget he was British while reading this, and it was only when he reminded us that I went, oh yeah he is. As for Kendra, I just felt unsatisfied with her, I love Jack and I saw how much he loved her, but I felt Kendra didn’t give him the same love that he projected for her. The chemistry felt really one-sided on Jack’s part and I felt that, despite all the spice, he gave more than he took. How can this girl really say she was upset over bro group chats from college when they barely spoke at all, yet she remained faithful to her obviously cheating ex-boyfriend who was seen with other girls during their four years together? Girlie forgot her pride and she also has a lot of anxiety to work through. We also never get to see or hear her play, unlike Jack, and we barely catch a glimpse of it during her practices, so how can you convince me she was the best or that she deserved all these promotions? I wasn’t convinced about her talent at all, and I’ve read many sports romances where the female heroines absolutely dominate in their sport. All in all, what I am convinced of is that most of the people rating this five stars did it for Jack, the multiple spice scenes, and the abundance of romance tropes: mature hockey romance, friends to lovers, forced proximity, fake dating, he falls first and harder, hockey player x soccer player, third act conflict/breakup, misunderstanding/ miscommunication, the aggressive ex boyfriend, and unrequited love. After reading this, I’m not inclined to read the series before this one. I’ll try again in the next book, it seems to be more interesting with Sawyer and Collins.
