Found in the south of Thailand, the Betta Imbellis is one of the most well known wild betta species in the hobby; their beautiful color contrast of Green and red stands out to be one of the most beautiful species on any collectors wish list!
Although conflicting information regarding their aggressiveness and them being kept as pairs from my point of view and experience i do not recommend doing so as they are just as aggressive as any other species, a Harem in a larger tank is more possible.
Set up recommendations:
a planted, heated, and filtered tank, ideally a 2.5-10 gallon tank that mimics their natural habitat (biotope). Use dried almond leaves or other tannin-rich items to soften the water and add beneficial tannins. Tanks should be semi-planted to allow the fish to color up, and a lid is essential to prevent bettas from jumping out.
Tank & Environment
Tank Size: A 2.5-10 gallon tank is suitable for wild bettas, with larger tanks recommended for groups.
Habitat Mimicry: A biotope or freshwater tank that mimics their natural habitat is best.
Heater: You'll need a heater to maintain the correct temperature for your specific wild betta species.
Tankmates: Any small non aggressive micro fish is recommended, 1 male per tank is mandatory.
Filter: A small filter is beneficial, though you don't want a lot of water flow.
Lid: Always secure a lid on your tank because betta fish are known to jump.
Water & Plants
Tannins: Add dried almond leaves or other tannin-rich items to soften the water and provide beneficial tannins that wild bettas enjoy. You're looking for a tea-like coloration in the water.
Plants: Plant the tank semi-planted, not too dense, so your bettas have areas to hide but can still color up.

About FranksBettas:
I'm Frank from FranksBettas and I am a breeder and hobby from Thailand who has a passion for both conservation for protecting the habitat for original wild bettas whilst also working closely with selective bred wild type genetics as a hobby, my work as a breeder is purely my hobby whilst my conservation work is for the love of the original native species in my country, you can watch my work closely on my YouTube at Franksbettas for more insight into my world
Before I began selling fish I always enjoyed keeping wild bettas and would protect habitats and re-release many F1's to these habitat to repopulate depleting habitats, after showing my work on YouTube and social media people wanted to support my work so I began breeding existing captive bred wild bettas that were already in circulation and created my own lines and people loved them! It soon became a huge part in my life and people began supporting my movement. Today a large part of my income goes back into conservation costs for wild bettas in my region and with that we have so far created 3 natural habitat ponds for Betta Smaragdinas that are now protected from extinction and poaching.
At FranksBettas we do not collect fish to sell, all my fish are captive bred whether it is a pure original species or a cross variant!
