Chamaedorea antrivens - Cascade Palm

Chamaedorea antrivens, commonly known as the Cascade Palm, is a compact, clumping palm with elegant, fishtail-shaped fronds and lush green foliage. This tropical palm adds a refined, exotic feel to shaded garden beds, borders, and indoor spaces with its attractive foliage and tidy growth habit. Growing to a height of 1.5–2 meters, Chamaedorea antrivens is ideal for small tropical gardens, shaded patios, or as an indoor plant that brings a lush, tropical look to any room.

Position

Cascade Palm thrives in partial to full shade, making it perfect for shaded garden beds, underplanting, or as an indoor plant in bright, indirect light. It prefers warm, humid conditions and is well-suited to tropical and subtropical climates. Indoors, place in a well-lit area with filtered light to maintain its vibrant foliage colour. Cascade Palms are commonly planted in full sun locations acclimatising well after a short period of time.

Growth

This compact, clumping palm grows to a mature height of 1.5–2 meters with a spread of about 1 meter. Its graceful, fishtail-like fronds make it a beautiful choice for shaded garden beds, containers, or as a feature plant in indoor tropical displays.

Planting Guide

Chamaedorea antrivens grows best in well-drained, fertile soil enriched with organic matter. Plant in spring or early autumn, spacing plants about 1 meter apart to allow for natural spread. For container planting, use a high-quality, moisture-retentive potting mix, and place the container in a shaded or bright, indirect light location. Water thoroughly after planting, and apply a layer of mulch to retain moisture.

Plant Care

Water regularly to keep the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged, as Chamaedoreas prefer consistent moisture but do not tolerate soggy conditions. Fertilise every 4–6 weeks during the growing season with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser to support lush foliage. Prune away any yellowing or damaged leaves to keep the plant looking fresh.

Wonderful and short introduction to plate tectonics for those with little background in Earth science or mathematics
Format: Paperback
Molnar does an excellent job explaining key elements of plate tectonics. His book is understandable even for those with little background in geology or geophysics. Molnar, an expert on mountain building, nicely explains how collisions of plates with continents atop cause mountain belts to form. He also questions the limitations of plate tectonics in explaining formation of such mountains. Understanding Molnar's very short book requires little mathematics. An ideal text for college science courses for non-science majors, and for those who want to understand the evolution of Earth's geological features and phenomena.

Easy to read
Format: Paperback
The book was an easy to read discussion of plate tectonics. The technical terms were easily understood and presented in an interest manner. Technically sound and entertaining is a winning combination for a science book! I wold recommend this book to anyone interested in the topic but is not a scientist in the field.
