DESCRIPTION - MK3

Optical compression is famously used in studios because it sounds natural and musical. It doesn't have artifacts like pumping or breathing sounds, it doesn't overly squash your signal, and it just gives your overall bass tone a "your-bass-but-better" kind of vibe. It compresses in a fairly transparent and musical way.

The Lusithand Alma compressor is an optical compressor, and its original inspiration is the legendary Diamond Compressor. However, it takes a very Lusithand approach to compression, and now in its third iteration—the Mark 3—it's pretty much the ultimate optical compressor you can get for bass.

For starters, it has four controls that make it super simple to dial in. It has a clean blend and a compression control (which is the point at which the signal starts to compress), it has the output to compensate for volume reduction from compression, and it has multiple compression ratios which go from light and subtle to pretty heavy. Most importantly, it has the Tilt EQ feature, which is frequency-selectable and gives this compressor a super useful twist on the classic optical compression formula.

Tilt EQ is a seemingly simple EQ, but it just sounds really good. It's very cool and musical, it makes all the frequencies sound naturally balanced. Essentially, with Tilt EQ you choose whether you want things below a certain frequency point to sound louder than the highs, but in a very natural-sounding way. If you want brighter, more higher-mid content, turn it one way. If you want lower mids and bigger sound, turn it the other way. Or keep it neutral down the middle.

The MK3 version also adds extra features, most notably the attack switch. This gives you the typical fast attack characteristic of optical compressors, plus an option for a slower attack, which allows more of the initial transients through for a punchier sound, a fairly unusual feature in optical compressors.

It also has a -6dB pad for use at the end of your pedal chain, even with super hot signals. The voltage doubler increases headroom to prevent artifacts or distortion, keeping your playing feeling dynamic.

The build quality reflects Lusithand's commitment to professional-grade pedals. The enclosure is robust enough to handle years of touring, while the components are selected for sonic properties and reliability.

If you've been looking for a great-sounding optical compressor that can be neutral or give you character, the Alma might be the right compressor for your rig.

From Lusithand:

The Alma Compressor MK3, an opto-isolator compressor, is an evolution of it’s predecessor; it retains all the original elements and it adds a few more.

A voltage doubler (internal circuit) doubles the voltage being fed. This makes it possible to have 36v when powering from an 18v supply. The pedal can be run from 9v to 18v (max). The higher voltage operation significantly increases the headroom and prevents unwanted clipping/distortion, caused by hotter signals.

CONTROLS - MK3

CLN: Clean signal. When mixed with the compressed signal, the CLN allows for parallel compression, which can help bring some of that clarity back to your playing. This acts as a Volume control for the clean signal.

COM: Compression/Gain level. This is the compression amount. It acts, both, as the threshold and makeup gain.

VOLcom: Compressed volume signal. This is the volume for the compressed signal.

EQZ: Tilt equalizer. Together with the SHIFT EQZ, the EQZ allows to gently (and musically) compensate for different sounding instruments.

SHIFT EQZ: Shifts between 900Hz or 250Hz for the tilt EQ center frequency.

RATIO SWITCH: 2:1/ 4:1/ 8:1 compression ratios

ATK SWITCH:. Select between slow and fast attacks

-6db SWITCH: -6db attenuation at the input

TECHNICAL - MK3

Voltage Operation

  • 9 to 18v Dc (Centre Negative)

Current Draw

  • 9v (+-18v internal)= 37mA
  • 18v (+-36v internal)= 59mA

Smells like rubber.
Flavor Name: Bacon, Size: Medium
I bought this flavored nylabone for my dog because he had one that he just loved and it finally had to be thrown out. So I bought him this one and he won't even chew on it. All it smells like is rubber. No flavor smell AT ALL. But our other dog chews anything and he chews this so I kept it. I won't buy nylabone again.

One of the few safe chewy bones for a super chewer. Very durable, an appropriate price, and a good size for our 70lb pitty.

Not really what I paid for.
Flavor Name: Bacon, Size: Medium
I have two major chewer dogs, and one of REALLY chews on everything. It’s super difficult not spending an average of $50 every 2-4 months on chew toys because they go through them so fast. When I got my first boy I saw his chewing habits so I looked for a durable chew toy brand. Nylabone was everyone’s favorite so I tried two or three chew toys for him after attempting other brands. He’s six years old and this past Christmas I JUST threw away his very first chew bone. It lasted over 5 years. I was ecstatic after year one! A heavy duty chew toy brand that actually did was promised! Naturally I stuck with Nylabone, never having an issue with any of their toys until this one. Cheeseburger bacon flavored/scented was my go to for this second puppy I just got with the same, if not more, super chewing habits. He loves trying to steal our bacon and burgers so I’m like, “Okay. I’ll try this one.” It arrives, I open it. It smells like freshly burnt rubber from tires and neither of my boys will touch it. I’m also wondering how this can be durable if I can literally bend without trying much. I’m overly concerned with them digesting it and will probably toss it in the trash since my youngest boy has stomach issues already and doesn’t need this thing irritating it. In short, if you think yours will smell like bacon burger go for it. Just make sure your dog isn’t a super canine chewer because I doubt this thing would last an hour with even one of my dogs and that’s if they would actually touch it.
